In October 2013, the Scrap Metal Dealers Act came into force across England and Wales, bringing a series of changes to the metal recycling industry. In Scotland , equivalent legal requirements were enacted through the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 (as modified by the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015). As part of this legislation, cash payments to suppliers of scrap metal , including mobile collectors and motor vehicle salvage operators by metal dealers are banned. It is also a requirement that metal dealers must verify the identity of anyone that they buy scrap material from. The documents that we are able to accept to comply with this legal requirement are:
Photo ID
Either of the following:
• Valid UK photo driving licence
• Valid UK passport
AND
Proof of address (must be less than 3 months old)
One of the following:
• Bank or building society statement
• Council tax statement or demand letter
• Utility bill ( A mobile phone bill is not acceptable)
• Pre-paid Credit Card
• Visa Debit Card
We will pay for the scrap metal either by:
• Cheque OR
• Same Day Bank Payment
